Poll on Werkkzeug

The survey sheet attached to Hugi 29 contained two questions about Werkkzeug by Theprodukkt (Farbrausch), a new demo-creator program. This program was originally created by the Farbrausch group for internal purposes. They created most of their productions, including fr-08: .the .product and fr-019: poem to a horse, with it. Here are the answers we have received:

What is your opinion on the public release of werkkzeug1 by Farbrausch?
I think it's a great thing.

How do you think will werkkzeug1 influence the development of the demoscene?
I have been in the scene for 18 years, and the biggest influx of new sceners frequently came about because they started playing with a construction set. After a while, though, they would either lose interest or want to be able to do more - so they had to learn more. I also feel comfortable appreciating a good piece of art even if they didn't write their own tools. If it is a very nice demo, I enjoy it.

What is your opinion on the public release of werkkzeug1 by Farbrausch?
The worst that can happen because of this is that we get a lot of crappy demos. The best that can happen is that we get a lot of good demos. Personally, I think it's a good thing, even though I don't know if I'm going to use it to create anything.

How do you think will werkkzeug1 influence the development of the demoscene?
Well, those with less coding skill but more artistic skill may be able to do demos on their own, while I think most coders would shun it (they don't wanna loose their 'job', do they?), wasn't it such fun.

What is your opinion on the public release of werkkzeug1 by Farbrausch?
It's really powerful (texture generation is especially comfortable), but people need time to understand the way it's got to be used. Making demos with third-party soft is still questionable (I mean the whole concept of demo making). I also feel not having a coder is more an excuse, than a real reason. Producing a finished product is not easy whatever tool you use.
PS It also has a very tough "rival" - "aDDict". Time will show.

What is your opinion on the public release of werkkzeug1 by Farbrausch?
It's interesting to get an idea how to set up an advanced demo/introtool. Of course there are already other editors or libraries as well, with different strenghts and drawbacks.

How do you think will it influence the development of the demoscene?
At least it was one of the main reasons for adding a demotool category to pouet ;) Other groups may also decide to release their tools to the public now, something which was usually only a private or on-demand issue.
But I doubt we will see a flood of high quality intros now: The key is still a deep insight regarding the capabilities and flaws of the code and data structures in it, thus without knowing the details it's unlikely to use the full potential of the tool.

By the way: The bonus pack to this issue of Hugi Magazine contains an intro created by LoneStar using Werkkzeug - hugi30_intro.exe.
